Savory Carrot Dogs

Savory Carrot Dogs

Don’t you hate it when you go to a cookout and everyone is devouring their hotdogs but you can’t partake because it is not cruelty-free?? I sometimes find myself craving a good ole hotdog here and there and it got my creative juices flowing..

I have tried a couple vegan hotdogs that they sell at the grocery store but they always taste wayyy too processed and fake for my liking. The texture is typically pretty off and the flavor usually leaves much to be desired (based on my experiences).

I heard a little bit about the infamous “carrot-dog” a while back but reviews for them were not always good. So I figured I would take a swing at it and do my own thing, following my instincts. Let me just tell you, they DID NOT disappoint!! I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing and easy these were to prepare!! It did not take a lot of prep work at all and everyone raved about how good they were! Some even said it tasted better than a regular hotdog. You guys, I honestly hit it out of the park with this recipe!! I can truthfully say I will never buy another processed vegan hotdog again! I am making more as I type this out right now actually (I just had them last night), that is how good they are. Just slather some vegan mayo on your bun, and add your favorite hotdog toppings right on top. It is sure to be a home-run!!

I hope you guys seriously consider giving this recipe a try and let me know what you think about it! This is definitely my favorite recipe I have shared with you guys to date, and I couldn’t be more proud of it.

Hugs and carbs,

Ingredients: (makes 4 carrot- dogs)

2 tbsp. vinegar { I chose apple cider vinegar}

1 – 2 tbsps. liquid aminos

1/2- 1 tbsp. hot sauce (depending on how much you want to turn up the heat!!)

1 tsp of each: chili powder, onion powder, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper

2 tbsp hoisin sauce

Salt to taste

1 cup of water

4 carrots

Shave off outside of carrots and rinse them thoroughly.

Spear the carrots slightly so there are slits in it. This will help the marinade to deeply penetrate the carrots while they marinate.

Throw all of the spices, sauces, and carrots into a pot.

Put your carrots in the pot and let it marinate for atleast 3 hours.

Then put the pot (with the carrots and marinade) on the stove and cook it on medium- high heat for 25 minutes, or until your desired tenderness.

IF you want your carrots to have a more saucy/sticky texture, throw it in a saucepan and pour some of the marinade on it. Cook it on high heat and let thicken up for a few minutes.

Let it cool and serve it on a bun with your favorite toppings!

{I dressed my carrot-dog up with some vegan mayo, mustard, ketchup, spinach, and a toasted bun w/ a corn on the cob! #YUM}
